Selection Process
Selection is based purely on a written objective-type competitive examination, conducted offline or online, followed by document/record verification. This section explains the marking scheme and qualifying criteria. The written exam will be of 140 marks, of objective multiple-choice type, lasting 2 hours 30 minutes, covering General Knowledge and General Studies. A separate typing/shorthand skill test worth 60 marks will also be conducted; the detailed syllabus will be published separately on the UKSSSC website. Minimum qualifying marks: 45% for General and OBC category candidates, and 35% for SC/ST category candidates. Candidates scoring below this will be considered unqualified. Each question carries 4 answer options; 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer, and 0.25 marks (1/4) are deducted for each incorrect answer. Marking more than one option for a question is treated as a wrong answer and attracts negative marking. No negative marking applies to unattempted questions. The typing/shorthand test is qualifying in nature. If two candidates score equal marks in the written exam and equal marks in Hindi typing/shorthand, preference is given to the one who also qualifies in English typing/shorthand. If a tie still remains, the older candidate is ranked higher in the merit list.
