Only women candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Anganwadi Karyakartri. The candidate must be a permanent resident of the same Gram Sabha (for rural areas) or the same Ward (for urban areas) for which she is applying. The entire selection process will be governed by Government Order No. 1/1092245/2025/3313/58-1-2025 (1917687) dated 17.09.2025.

Selection for the post of Anganwadi Karyakartri will be made on the basis of merit and category-wise reservation, following this priority order: Priority Category (a): Widow woman belonging to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family, resident of the same Gram Sabha/Ward. Legally divorced or abandoned (deserted) woman belonging to a BPL family, resident of the same Gram Sabha/Ward. If no widow/divorced/abandoned woman from a BPL family is available, other women belonging to a BPL family of the same Gram Sabha/Ward. Priority Category (b) - applicable only if no eligible candidate is found under Category (a): Widow woman belonging to an Above Poverty Line (APL) family, resident of the same Gram Sabha/Ward. Legally divorced or abandoned woman belonging to an APL family, resident of the same Gram Sabha/Ward. If no widow/divorced/abandoned woman from an APL family is available, other women belonging to an APL family of the same Gram Sabha/Ward. As per Government Order dated 17.09.2025, two women from the same family cannot be appointed as Anganwadi Karyakartri and Anganwadi Sahayika at the same Anganwadi Centre.
