Eligibility / Qualification
Educational Qualification – Research Engineer B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience in the specific specialization applied for; OR M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering (with relevant specialization) and 3 years of relevant experience. Minimum 65% marks in the qualifying degree (60% for SC/ST category candidates applying against reserved posts). The Bachelor's/Master's degree must be a full-time regular course from a UGC-recognized Indian University, UGC-recognized Deemed University, or AICTE-approved course from an autonomous Indian institution. Desirable qualification for the Fluid Flow Research specialization: Ph.D. Detailed specialization-specific experience requirements (e.g., two-phase/multi-phase flow research, CFD in thermal and fluids engineering, design and testing of valves, fluid flow research) are given in the detailed notification at www.fcriindia.com. Educational Qualification – Junior Research Engineer B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical/Electrical & Electronics, or Instrumentation-related Engineering, as per the post code applied for. Minimum 65% marks in the qualifying degree (60% for SC/ST category candidates applying against reserved posts). Freshers may apply for the post of Junior Research Engineer; no prior work experience is required. Candidates awaiting final results of their qualifying degree may also apply, provided they upload final marksheets and degree certificates on or before 31.08.2026, along with an online undertaking; failure to do so will result in automatic cancellation of candidature. The Bachelor's degree must be a full-time regular 4-year programme after 10+2, or a lateral-entry 3-year programme after a Diploma in the relevant discipline, from a UGC/AICTE-recognized institution. Selection Process
Selection is conducted in three stages: Screening of Applications: Applications are screened based on educational qualifications, experience criteria (where applicable), age, and payment of the application fee. Provisionally qualified candidates are notified via the Institute website. Written Test (Junior Research Engineer only): An online, bilingual (Hindi/English) Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) test is held at test centres in Coimbatore and/or Kochi (subject to availability based on the number of shortlisted candidates). Number of Questions: 100; Duration: 120 minutes Maximum Marks: 400 Marking Scheme: +4 for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer, 0 for unattempted questions Research Engineer posts do not have a written test. Personal Interview: Provisionally shortlisted candidates are called for interview only after completing document verification, where all original documents (age, identity, qualification, marks, experience, reservation category, etc.) must be produced. Interviews are conducted at FCRI, Palakkad, Kerala, or another city approved by the competent authority. Final selection: For Junior Research Engineer, the final rank list is based on a weightage of 80% written test marks and 20% interview marks. For Research Engineer, selection is based on the Interview, though FCRI reserves the right to include additional assessment stages if needed. No TA/DA is payable for attending the test or interview.
