Eligibility / Qualification
Eligibility under the draft rules covers age, educational qualification, and a general disqualification clause: Age limit: not exceeding 30 years for direct recruits (see age limit section below) Educational qualification: a recognised Bachelor's degree in a specified science discipline, or a three-year Diploma in Engineering/Technology (see qualification section below) General disqualification: a person who has a living spouse and marries again, or marries a person who already has a living spouse, is not eligible for appointment - unless the Central Government grants an exemption where such a marriage is permissible under the applicable personal law
Selection Process
The draft rules do not specify a written-exam or interview scheme for direct recruitment through SSC (this will follow SSC's own recruitment process once the rules are finalised and a vacancy notification is issued). For confirmation/selection matters, the rules specify a Departmental Selection/Confirmation Committee comprising: Scientist not below the rank of Scientist 'F' - Chairman Deputy Secretary or Under Secretary in charge of Establishment - Member Scientist not below the rank of Scientist 'C' - Member Consultation with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is not applicable under this post's rules.
