Selection Process
Selection for MPESB Subedar & Sub Inspector Recruitment 2026 is conducted in two stages. Stage 1: Preliminary Written Exam Objective/MCQ type, 100 marks, 2-hour duration, no negative marking. Subjects: Hindi language comprehension, English language comprehension, Analytical ability, History, Geography, Science, Civics, Basic computer knowledge, Reasoning, Current Affairs. Separate merit lists are prepared for non-technical and technical posts; candidates equal to 10 times the advertised vacancies (per vertical category: UR/OBC/ST/SC/EWS) are called for the Main Exam. A 5% bonus mark is available at this stage only for specified categories (dependents of soldiers killed in recent India-Pakistan conflict, ex-servicemen, census/election-surplus staff, NCC "C" certificate holders, and returnees from Myanmar/Sri Lanka, among others). Stage 2: Main Exam, Physical Efficiency Test & Interview Main Written Exam: Two compulsory papers (Paper I & II) of 300 marks each (600 total) for all non-technical and technical posts, 2 hours each. Technical-post candidates (Group-1: SI-Arms; Group-2: SI-Photo/QD/Finger Print) also take an additional Paper III (300 marks) based on Mechanical Engineering (for Arms) or Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry (for Photo/QD/Finger Print). Objective type; 1/3 mark negative marking for wrong answers. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Compulsory for all candidates, 100 marks total - 800m race (max 40 marks), Long Jump (max 30 marks, 3 attempts), Shot Put (max 30 marks, 3 attempts). Minimum qualifying marks: 30 for non-technical posts, 20 for technical posts. Candidates equal to 3 times the advertised vacancies (per category) based on Main Exam merit are called for PET and Interview. Interview: 50 marks, conducted by a selection committee for candidates who clear PET and document verification. The final merit list is based on Main Exam, PET, and Interview marks combined (using a Normalised Equi-Percentile scaling method for multi-shift/multi-stage exams), with document verification conducted after PET. No relaxation is available in the minimum physical standards on health or any other grounds.
