Selection is conducted as per the Home Department, Government of Jharkhand notification No. 5442 dated 20.10.2014, through the following stages: Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Comprising a 1-mile race, high jump, long jump, and shot put, with marks awarded on a sliding scale for each event. Separate scoring standards apply for (i) Rural and Non-Technical Urban candidates, and (ii) Technically skilled Urban candidates, with separate benchmarks for male and female candidates in each. Hindi Writing Ability Test: Qualifying in nature, for candidates who clear the PET. Rural candidates are tested at a 7th-class level and Urban candidates at a 10th-class level. Full marks: 100; qualifying marks: 30. Technical Skill Test: Applicable only to technically skilled Urban Home Guard candidates who clear the PET and Hindi Writing Test. Qualifying in nature. Merit List, Document Verification, Medical Examination & Police Verification: A merit list is prepared based on the notified provisions after all tests are completed, and selection is made against available vacancies. Selected candidates' certificates, medical fitness, and police character verification are checked before appointment. Basic Training & Enrolment: Selected candidates undergo basic Home Guard training on the orders of JGRV Headquarters, Ranchi. On successful completion of training, they are formally enrolled as Home Guards and issued an enrolment certificate.
