Selection Process
The selection process consists of Stage I – INET (Indian Navy Entrance Test) followed by Stage II (Physical Fitness Test, Written Examination and Recruitment Medical) and Pre-Enrolment Medicals. Stage I – INET is a computer-based examination with 100 objective-type (multiple-choice) questions, each carrying 1 mark. The Stage I question paper is bilingual (Hindi & English) and comprises four sections: English, Science, Biology and General Awareness. The standard of Stage I question paper is that of 10+2, and syllabus and sample papers are available on the official website. The duration of Stage I examination is one hour, and candidates are required to pass in all sections as well as in aggregate; pass marks in each section and aggregate are determined by the Indian Navy. Negative marking is applicable in Stage I – one fourth (0.25) marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. Centre allocation for INET (online examination) is at the discretion of the Indian Navy. In case of extraneous circumstances causing non-conduct of INET or as per service requirement, Indian Navy reserves the right to shortlist candidates based on marks obtained in qualifying examinations (10th/12th board exams). Results of Stage I – INET (Pass/Fail) along with marks scored will be uploaded on the candidate’s online dashboard. Candidates eligible for Stage II as per age criteria will be shortlisted for SSR (Medical) 02/2027 batch based on marks obtained in Stage I – INET 2026. Shortlisting for Stage II will be carried out state wise, and cut-off marks for next stage will vary from state to state as vacancies are allotted state-wise. If candidates with the same percentage exceed required numbers, shortlisting will be done based on Date of Birth, with earlier DOB (fewer chances) given priority. Sponsor candidates and NCC ‘C’ certificate holders who upload original sponsor and NCC certificates during Stage I application and whose certificates are verified will be exempted from Stage I – INET and will be directly issued call-up for Stage II based on eligibility. Stage II begins with Physical Fitness Test (PFT), which is mandatory; candidates undergoing PFT do so at their own risk. PFT standards for male candidates are: 1.6 km run in 6 min 30 sec, 20 Squats (Uthak Baithak), 15 Push-ups and 15 Bent Knee Sit-ups. The Stage II written exam is conducted only for candidates who qualify the PFT and consists of 100 objective-type questions of 1 mark each. The Stage II written exam question paper is bilingual (Hindi & English) and comprises four sections: English, Science, Biology and General Awareness, with 10+2 level standard and one-hour duration. Candidates must pass in all sections and in aggregate in the Stage II written exam; pass marks are set by the Indian Navy. Recruitment Medical Examination is carried out for candidates who qualify PFT; candidates who qualify Recruitment Medical are considered for the merit list. Candidates found medically unfit in Recruitment Medical may appeal for review at a designated military hospital within 5 days; medical certificates from other hospitals are not accepted and no further review/appeal is permissible. Provisional Select List is prepared based on performance in Stage II written exam, subject to qualification in PFT and Recruitment Medical; merit list for SSR (Medical) is state-wise and cut-off for call-up to INS Chilka varies by state. Pre-Enrolment Medical formalities are conducted at INS Chilka and induction is subject to qualifying these formalities; candidates not qualifying pre-enrolment medicals will be rejected.
