Eligibility / Qualification

It is restricted to candidates already serving within the Bihar Home Guard organization who meet the following conditions. Who Can Apply Must be an Indian citizen. Men, women, and third gender Home Guards may apply. Must be enrolled and trained in the Bihar Home Guard Vahini organization. Must have completed at least 5 years of service/duty in the organization. Must have at least 10 years of remaining service left as on the cut-off date considered for appointment (i.e., the application cut-off date). Must meet the physical and educational qualifications prescribed for the post. Physical Standards Parameter Requirement Height – General/BC Men Minimum 165 cm Height – EBC/SC/ST Men Minimum 160 cm Height – Women (all categories) Minimum 155 cm Chest – General/BC/EBC Men 81 cm (unexpanded) / 86 cm (expanded) Chest – SC/ST Men 79 cm (unexpanded) / 84 cm (expanded) Weight – Women (all categories) Minimum 48 kg Chest measurement is not applicable for women candidates. A minimum expansion of 5 cm is required for men after fully expanding the chest. For third gender (Kinnar/Kothi/Hijra/Transgender) candidates, the physical standards and physical efficiency test criteria will be the same as for Backward Class (BC) candidates. No marks are awarded for height, chest, or weight - candidates simply must meet the prescribed minimums to qualify; those who don't will be declared unsuccessful.

Category Application Fee All categories – Men, Women, and Third Gender ₹100/- Payment must be made online only, through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI. Bank charges applicable on Net Banking/Credit/Debit Card transactions must be borne by the candidate. The fee is non-refundable once payment is successful, except where a payment is deducted but registration fails due to technical issues - such amounts are refunded by the payment gateway within 7 working days.
Selection Process
Selection to the post of Company Commander will be made through a written competitive examination in two phases, followed by a Physical Efficiency Test, as detailed below. Phase 1: Preliminary Examination Total Marks 200 Number of Questions 100 (MCQ) Duration 2 hours The Preliminary exam covers General Knowledge and Current Affairs. Candidates scoring less than 30% will be declared unsuccessful for the Main exam. Successful candidates will be shortlisted for the Main exam at 20 times the number of vacancies, category-wise, in merit order (this ratio may be reduced if sufficient qualified candidates are not available). Phase 2: Main Examination Paper Subject Marks Questions Duration Qualifying Marks Paper 1 General Hindi 200 100 2 hours 30% (qualifying only, not counted in merit) Paper 2 General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics & Mental Ability 200 100 2 hours As per category-wise cut-off (see below) A negative marking of 0.2 marks per wrong answer applies in both the Preliminary and Main examinations. The answer sheet will be prepared in two copies, one of which will be retained by the Commission. Minimum qualifying marks for the final merit list (based on Main exam Paper 2): SC, ST, and Women candidates – 32%; EBC candidates – 34%; BC candidates – 36.5%; General category candidates – 40%. Phase 3: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Based on Main exam marks, candidates will be shortlisted for the PET at 6 times the number of vacancies, category-wise, in merit order. The PET is qualifying in nature only. Candidates who fail to complete the race within the prescribed time will not be permitted to attempt the other events. Candidates must qualify separately in every event. Third gender candidates follow the same PET standards as the Backward Class category. Final Merit List The final merit list will be prepared category-wise based on marks obtained in the Main written examination (Paper 2). In case of a tie, preference will be given first by date of birth (older candidate ranked higher), then by higher educational qualification, and finally by alphabetical order of name as per the 10th board certificate.
