Candidates with an engineering degree in a branch/discipline other than those listed above are not eligible. Only full-time regular courses from UGC-recognized/AICTE-approved institutions are considered. Minimum Qualifying Percentage & Passing-Year Conditions General, EWS and OBC (NCL) candidates: minimum 65% marks in the Bachelor's degree in Engineering. SC/ST/PwBD candidates: minimum 60% marks (a 5% relaxation), applicable only against posts reserved for SC/ST/PwBD. SC/ST/PwBD candidates applying against unreserved posts are assessed under general merit standards with no relaxation in minimum qualifying percentage. No rounding off of marks is allowed (e.g., 64.99% is not treated as 65% for UR category). Eligible candidates: those who completed their Bachelor's degree in Engineering in 2026, OR those currently in the final year (2026–27) of their Engineering degree course. Candidates who completed their Engineering degree in 2025 or earlier are not eligible to apply. Final-year candidates must have secured the minimum prescribed percentage (65%/60% as applicable) in aggregate up to the last semester/year examination at the time of applying, and must submit the final degree certificate (or at least a provisional certificate) and all semester/year mark sheets confirming the minimum prescribed percentage by 31 August 2027.

Selection Process

GAIL will use GATE-2027 marks (not GATE 2026 or earlier) to shortlist candidates for Executive Trainee recruitment. Eligible candidates must first register for and appear in GATE-2027 in the relevant paper corresponding to their discipline (see Posts & Disciplines table above). After downloading the GATE-2027 admit card, candidates must separately apply online on the GAIL website, indicating their GATE-2027 Registration Number. Applications without a valid GATE-2027 registration number will be rejected. Based on GATE-2027 marks and requirement, candidates will be shortlisted for the further selection process for the Executive Trainee position. Further details of the selection process (e.g., group discussion/interview stages, if any) are not specified in this notification and are expected in the February 2027 detailed advertisement.
